Dr. Karen Sherman Appeared on "Outreach Today" Radio Show

De. Karen Sherman was a guest on the "Outreach Today" Show to speak about mental health issues.

Plainview, NY, July 17, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Dr. Karen Sherman was a guest on the "Outreach Today" radio show where she spoke about mental health issues. During the interview, she discussed important areas regarding how to know if you have mental illness and how to seek help. Dr. Sherman stated that "with all the stress occurring today, there is an increase of anxiety and depression."

She made special note that medication may be warranted in some cases but is not a replacement for therapy. Additionally, Dr. Sherman advocates strongly that should someone be considering medication for mental illness, they consult a psychiatrist rather than their internist since this area is not the internist's specialty.

Another point raised by Dr. Sherman was regarding marital therapy. As a relationship expert herself, she warned that someone must be specialized in doing this type of therapy ... it is different than individual therapy. Finally, she said it is very important that people feel connected to the chosen therapist since this is a predictor of positive therapy outcome.
