The Kebab Shop of San Diego Declares August 15th, 2012 San Diego's Official Doner Kebab Day

80 San Diegans to win doner kebabs and four patrons will win doner kebabs for a month.

San Diego, CA, July 25, 2012 --(PR.com)-- The Kebab Shop, San Diego Magazine's 2012 "Cheap Eats" Editor's winner, announced its plans for the 1st Annual Doner Kebab Day today. On August 15th, Wednesday, patrons and the public are invited to participate in a day-long event taking place at all four Kebab Shop locations.

Eager fans of the Kebab Shop will get a chance to nab a free doner kebab on August 15th: the first 20 patrons to each location will receive a free doner kebab. In addition, a raffle will take place at each location, and one winner will be selected per location to receive free doner kebabs for one month (limit one per day). Lastly, during opening hours at each location, patrons who purchase an original lamb or chicken doner kebab (valued at $6.99) will get a free fountain drink.

"The doner kebab is what the Kebab Shop is all about," said co-owner A.J. Akbar. "We wanted San Diego to celebrate a day just for this unique food item that's been around since the 18th century! It's also a great way for us to say ‘thanks’ to our customers that have helped us grow to four locations within San Diego.”

Doner kebabs, a Turkish dish made traditionally of roasted meat cooked on a vertical spit, gained popularity in Germany in the 1980s and has since grown in popularity the world over. The Kebab Shop's doner kebabs are offered in spiced lamb, marinated chicken or falafel with a mix of fresh vegetables, a creamy garlic yogurt sauce and homemade spicy sauce. Patrons often pair the doner kebabs with Turkish, Lebanese and German Beers, also offered at most Kebab Shop locations.
