Mocamomo iPhone Case Protects Sharks Too

Proceeds from sale of Mocamomo's specially illustrated iPhone case supports shark conservation programs administered by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), WildAID International, and Shark Truth.

Hong Kong S.A.R., Hong Kong S.A.R., July 30, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Mocamomo Co. Ltd. announced the release of their “Live Fin Free” iPhone 4 and 4S protective cases today. The “Live Fin Free” collection is comprised of two cases, each illustrated by Hong Kong-based artist Man-Tsun. Proceeds from the sale of the two cases will go to support shark conservation programs administered by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), WildAID International, and Shark Truth.

“The practice of shark finning, primarily for shark fin soup, is an issue that is very close and personal to me,” said Mocamomo Canadian Co-Founder Ed Wong. “I believe strongly in ending the practice and helping to curb the cultural practice of eating shark fin soup. When I talked to Man-Tsun about creating a case that would shed light on the issue and help raise funds for organizations working in the area, we discovered that he felt the same way.”

Man-Tsun’s illustrative style suited the project perfectly with his unique use of strong, sharp lines that help highlight the tension between consumer demand for shark fin soup and the need to protect shark populations from extinction. Studies indicate that up to 73 million sharks are killed each year for the consumption of shark fin soup.

The release of Mocamomo’s “Live Fin Free” collection comes at a time when ending the consumption of shark fin soup is gaining momentum and traction. Recently, the Canadian cities of Toronto, Ontario and Port Moody, British Columbia enacted bans on the sale of shark fin. In the United States, the state of Illinois became the fourth state to ban the sale, trade, possession, and distribution of shark fins. And in a surprising move, China’s State Council has agreed to stop serving shark fin soup at official banquets, taking effect over the next 1-3 years.

“We’re hopeful that the efforts of WWF, WildAID and Shark Truth will benefit from the sale of our ‘Live Fin Free’ cases,” said Wong. “They’re terrific organizations to support, doing important work, and now you’re seeing the results of that work but there’s still a long way to go.”
