Young Jewelry Artist Designs with a Cause

A new collection from Prismera Design offers chic designs with an environmentalist’s touch.

Lake Success, NY, June 27, 2007 --(PR.com)-- The story begins with Laura Su’s visit to the Brooklyn Museum. A 24-year-old native New Yorker and jewelry designer, Su found inspiration in a special exhibit of large-scale watercolor paintings that explored the use and representation of nature in artwork. “The paintings were about taking something traditional and putting an allegorical spin on it to encourage public awareness of various issues,” Su explains. “Ever since that exhibit, I’ve wanted to utilize that sort of ideal into my own work.”

Her first tentative step towards a different and organic style was the Lace collection, a series created from molten sterling silver. Su’s latest collection, however, is the real sign that her ambition has headed towards making a stand in a cause close to her heart. Flora & Folium is a celebration of nature and crafted with recycled stainless steel. Each piece is a botanical silhouette that preserves the organic quality of each flower and leaf while maintaining a clean, modern look.

This turn towards recycled material represents a deepening in Su’s awareness of the earth and her latest attempt to raise the global consciousness of others. Aside from turning heads, these new pieces serve as a reminder of the relationship between people and their environment. 10% of the profits from this collection will go to Keep America Beautiful, Inc. to promote waste reduction and recycling programs.
