Erie County Convention Center Authority Calls for Artists

Northwest PA Artists Invited to Submit Proposals

Erie, PA, June 27, 2007 --(PR.com)-- The Erie County Convention Center Authority announced today requests for proposals from artists for works of art to be installed in the new Bayfront Convention Center in Erie, Pa. The Erie Art Museum, on behalf of the Erie County Convention Center Authority will accept proposals until July 25, 2007.

“Proposals will be considered for all types of artworks, including but not limited to paintings, photographs, sculptures, textiles, and electronic media,” said John Vanco, director of the Erie Art Museum. “There are no restrictions as to content, although we prefer that artists submit proposals that do not contain maritime subject matter.”

Located on the Sassafras Street pier in Presque Isle Bay, the new Convention Center features a 30,000 square foot Great Hall, a ballroom that seats 1,000 and 15 meeting rooms accommodating over 2,000.

“The initial opportunities for art installations are in the East Lobby, overlooking Presque Isle Bay and the slip leading to the West Canal Basin, and the North Lobby, overlooking the Bay toward Presque Isle,” said Casey Wells, executive director of the Erie County Convention Center Authority. “Extensive photos, floors plans, site plans and renderings are available for view at the Bayfront Convention Center website, www.bayfrontconventioncenter.com.”

Proposals are due by July 25 and will be reviewed by a committee of art experts and recommended for final approval to the Convention Center Authority. Selection criteria will include: the quality of work, as supported by both the submitted visual materials and the artist’s professional qualifications and experience, suitability of the proposed work to the site, cost, and proposed delivery and installation schedule. Proposals which can result in the delivery and installation of artwork in advance of the Center’s opening in August will be preferred.

Applications should submit a professional resume to include relevant experience, contact information and three professional references; a project proposal to include overall theme, conceptual drawings, sketches or schematic drawings, dimensions of work, description of materials to be used, schedule of work, installation details, and any special requirements; fee – a singe number which must include all costs, including, but not limited to artist fees, insurance, travel/housing, workshop costs, materials costs, fabrication, delivery and installation; and slides or digital images of recent work (no more than 24 images).

Artists will be paid upon full completion of installation as proposed, to the satisfaction of the Erie County Convention Center Authority. Works acquired by the Bayfront Convention Center become the property of the Erie County Convention Center Authority. The copyright of the image, although a work for hire, will be shared by the Authority and the artist, each to use as they see fit.

Any artist resident in NW Pennsylvania is eligible to submit a proposal.

Proposals should be sent to Bayfront Convention Center RFP, c/o Erie Art Museum, 411 State Street, Erie, PA 16501 or email to jvanco@erieartmuseum.org.
