NEC Standardizes Network Assessment Practices on Network Instruments Solutions

NEC uses award-winning GigaStor Portable to benchmark and troubleshoot VoIP deployments

Minneapolis, MN, June 26, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Network Instruments, a leading provider of innovative analysis solutions for in-depth network intelligence and continuous availability, today announced that NEC Unified Solutions, a global leader in VoIP and data communications, has standardized its network assessment practice on Network Instruments’ GigaStor Portable and Gigabit Observer® System Suite (GOSS) mobile network and VoIP analysis solutions.

GigaStor Portable is the first self-contained forensics system that can be deployed to any remote location to collect and save hours to weeks of packet-level data, which it can decode, analyze, and display. GigaStor Portable can then playback the saved data for identifying and troubleshooting intermittent network, application, and security problems. GOSS provides real-time troubleshooting and analysis on Gigabit and 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10 GbE) connections.

NEC Unified Solutions deploys the GigaStor Portable and GOSS network forensics solutions at the client’s site to monitor and evaluate network performance before deploying a VoIP solution.

Performing network assessment tests prior to deployment of VoIP is critical in ensuring that the existing customer’s data network can support the added voice traffic.

“GigaStor Portable and the GOSS are the backbone of our network assessment practice,” said Paul Lopez, General Manager, Marketing and Services, NEC Unified Solutions. “With GigaStor Portable we’re able to plug the appliance into any network and easily save and analyze a week’s worth of data. GigaStor gives us back-in-time visibility into events, and we can also break into real-time troubleshooting mode. This means on any problem that we see today in an assessment, we can use the GigaStor interface to go back two or three days and determine the cause.”

In addition to storage capacity and performance analysis capabilities, GigaStor Portable and GOSS give NEC greater flexibility in assessments and have quickly paid for themselves. “Being able to monitor multiple network interfaces on a single GigaStor Portable means we’re only having to ship, install, and monitor one box where it used to take three or four,” said Ivan McDuffie, manager of network engineering at NEC Unified Solutions. “Essentially the revenue generated from each assessment we do more than pays for a single GigaStor or GOSS. The last three assessments that we conducted generated over $100,000 in revenue for our company.”

“An important part of our relationship with Network Instruments is their ability to support us as we expand our network assessment practice,” said McDuffie. “Their products have a uniform application code set, so as we purchase new products we don’t have to learn a new interface. Also, when we move to evaluating 10 Gigabit networks, GigaStor Portable and Observer already support this topology.”
