Carolina Ballet Returns to the Durham Performing Arts Center During 2012-2013 Season

Ballet Company to Present Three Productions, Including The Nutcracker, Fancy Free & Carolina Jamboree, and Giselle

Durham, NC, August 26, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Robert Weiss, artistic director and CEO of Carolina Ballet (http://www.carolinaballet.com), has announced the company will be returning to the Durham Performing Arts Center (DPAC) for special performances of The Nutcracker, Fancy Free & Carolina Jamboree, and Giselle for its 15th anniversary season.

The Nutcracker
The magic of Carolina Ballet’s Nutcracker, which premiered to sold-out performances last season in 2011, returns to Durham for two performances at DPAC on Saturday, Dec. 29 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 30 at 2 p.m. The production features music by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky and choreography by Robert Weiss, with grand scale illusions created especially for Carolina Ballet that make the performance a truly magical family experience.

Fancy Free & Carolina Jamboree: Featuring The Red Clay Ramblers
Fancy Free, the first ballet choreographed by Jerome Robbins, took New York City by storm, propelled Robbins to a household name and led to a life of work on Broadway, in the movies and in ballet. With music by Leonard Bernstein, Fancy Free was so popular that it became the basis for the movie On The Town with Frank Sinatra and Gene Kelly. The second half of the show features Carolina Jamboree with choreography by Lynne Taylor-Corbett and music by The Red Clay Ramblers, the Chapel Hill based band. Its combination of bluegrass and ballet is unique to Carolina Ballet and will have guests dancing in the aisles. Both ballets will take place April 26, 2013 at 8 p.m.

Giselle
Giselle, the touchstone of ballet for the Romantic era, is still being performed by every major ballet company in the world. Carolina Ballet is proud to add Giselle to its repertoire with amazing sets and costumes imported from Florence, Italy. It features music by Adolphe Adam and choreography by Jules Perrot and Jean Coralli, with modifications by Weiss, who considers it the ultimate romantic ballet. Giselle will be performed May 23, 2013 at 8 p.m.

Single tickets for all three productions will be available for sale on Monday, Sept. 17. To purchase tickets please call the DPAC at 919-680-2787 or visit http://www.dpacnc.com/.
