Rhode Island Bioscience Awards Launched, Calling for Applications, Nominations

Tech Collective launches first award program in Rhode Island exclusively for individuals and innovators working in the biosciences. Nominations due: September 24th. Applications due: Oct. 1st.

Providence, RI, August 30, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Tech Collective, Rhode Island’s Bioscience and Information Technology industry association, today announces the launch of its Rhode Island Bioscience Awards. Nomination and Application forms are available at www.tech-collective.org.

The first of its kind in Rhode Island, the industry-specific awards program is designed to honor individuals working within the state’s bioscience sectors. Professionals working in medical device, research and development, pharmaceuticals, laboratories, production, design, and related areas are encouraged to apply individually or nominate their peers and colleagues. Nominations are being accepted now through Monday, September 24, 2012. All applications are due by Monday, October 1, 2012.

“The individuals we will honor through the Rhode Island Bioscience Awards are those who are literally changing our lives and our world,” said Kathie Shields, executive director for Tech Collective. “They are our peers and colleagues as well as our champions. Some will be quite and some will be readily recognized as leaders. All are influential and fostering bioscience innovation, growth, and success right here in Rhode Island.”

The biosciences comprise one of the fastest growing industries nationally and in Rhode Island. The recently released Battelle/BIO: State Bioscience Industry Development 2012 report shows 96,000 bioscience jobs were created across the nation between 2001 and 2010. In Rhode Island for the same period, the industry grew 44.3 percent.

“The bioscience industry is a critical and growing contributor to our state,” continued Shields. “In addition to individual recognitions, we are also looking forward to raising awareness of this burgeoning industry. There are many innovative, life-changing bioscience initiatives, products, technologies, and research and development that we cannot wait to help tell the story of.”

Award winners will present a poster session and be honored at the Rhode Island Bioscience Awards inaugural celebration on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet. For more information about the Rhode Island Bioscience Awards, visit www.tech-collective.org.
