A New Science of Mind Center Arises in Chicago as Two Pastors Agree to Merge Their Ministries

The Power of Oneness Spiritual Center and the Namaste Center for Spiritual Living – Chicago Join Forces to Build a More Prosperous Science of Mind Ministry.

Chicago, IL, August 31, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Hyde Park is now home to one of the largest Science of Mind congregations on the South Side of Chicago. The Power of Oneness Spiritual Center, led by the Rev. Celeste Frazier, and the Namaste Center for Spiritual Living - Chicago, led by the Rev. Cheryl Hawkins, have merged their churches to foster a stronger presence in the neighborhood and city.

The Namaste Center for Spiritual Living, located at 1917 W. 93rd St., closed its doors for the last time on Sunday, July 22nd. Its congregation was welcomed as new members of the Power of Oneness Spiritual Center, located in the Catholic Theological Union in Hyde Park at 5416 S. Cornell, the following Sunday. The new church held its first official service on August 12th, 2012, when it was christened the Oneness Spiritual Center.

Reverend Hawkins is retiring and will be leaving her congregation in the hands of Reverend Frazier. Both ministers believe that the Oneness Spiritual Center will be able to attract new members, offer more classes, and broaden its neighborhood outreach. “Our hope is that the new church will be a catalyst for our further growth in the community,” says Frazier, “that we will be more effective in the work we do in terms of fostering spiritual transformation to expand and multiply the consciousness of Oneness in Chicago and the world.”

“It's a perfect fit,” says Chiquita Lowery, a Science of Mind Minister at the Namaste Center for Spiritual Living. “We needed a minister and Reverend Frazier needed more support staff. And the core beliefs of both churches are the same - that God works through each of us.”

Sometimes you hear the call and have to decide whether or not you're going to answer, Frazier said in her first sermon to the new, combined congregation. “Reverend Hawkins called me and said she was going to retire and asked if I knew of anyone who might want to take over her church. I told her that I had often thought about us merging our churches but never mentioned it. She laughed and said she had considered it as well – more than once.

“At that moment I felt like I was being called to a new spiritual level of understanding and responsibility,” says Frazier. “It was yet another confirmation of listening to Spirit and being obedient. It’s all about trusting the Universe and knowing that It is conspiring for my good and for the good of all.”
