Matthew 25: Ministries Delivers Aid to Victims of Hurricane Isaac

Top-ranked Disaster Relief Organization Assists Victims of Devastation

Cincinnati, OH, September 02, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Matthew 25: Ministries, a top-ranked international humanitarian aid and disaster relief organization located in Cincinnati, OH reports that the damage from Hurricane Isaac is extensive.

Matthew 25’s Vice President and Disaster Relief Coordinator Tim Mettey is currently working in the hardest-hit areas, working with partners to begin relief operations for those left homeless and destitute as a result of the storm.

Hurricane Isaac deluged a wide area with heavy rain on Thursday, flooding areas north and south of New Orleans. Up to 20 inches of rain fell in some areas. The storm spawned life-threatening hazards including storm surges and local flooding.

Many communities outside the newly-reinforced federal levee system experienced extensive flooding. In Plaquemine Parish along the shores of Lake Ponchartrain, approximately 3,000 people were evacuated as waters rose rapidly. As many as 50,000 people in Tangipahoa Parish were told to evacuate and St. John the Baptist Parish also evacuated more than 3,500 residents.

Louisiana's Public Service Commission said more than 900,000 homes and businesses around the state (approximately 47 percent of all customers) were without power on Thursday and many locations are threatened with contaminated water sources.

While the extent of the storm’s damage is not as far-reaching as that left by Hurricane Katrina seven years ago, for the thousands in those areas hit hardest by the storm the damage is equally complete and devastating.

“There are thousands that desperately need our help as a result of Hurricane Isaac. It is very important that we reach out to help these people during this time of crisis. Many of them have lost everything,” says Mettey.
