Irvine, CA, September 06, 2012 --( Stanbridge College, a technical college that offers Master, Bachelor and Associate of Science degrees and diploma programs in Healthcare and Information Technology, CA remembered former student, Marine Sgt. Manuel Loggins in their 2012 Commencement Ceremony in July. Stanbridge College also donated over $1,700 to the family of the former student in the Diploma in Vocational Nursing program. The fundraiser was held over two weeks on campus and encouraged all students, staff and faculty to provide monetary donations to Loggins’ wife and children. Sgt Loggins died unexpectedly on February 7, 2012.

Throughout the recent graduation ceremony, several moments were dedicated in Sgt Loggins’ memory including the presentation of the American flag by the H&S Battalion, Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, the same unit Sgt Loggins was affiliated with. Photos of Sgt Loggins with classmates and friends concluded the class memoirs and one of 2012 Valedictorians, Rashida Khan Muhammad, took the time to pause for Sgt Loggins in her address to the 120 graduates.

“Today, I can truly say that I am so blessed to have met you all. On this note, I would like for all of us to take a moment to reflect upon the life of our former classmate Manny Loggins, and how he truly touched each one of our lives,” stated Ms. Khan Muhammad. “Also I would like to appreciate our classmate and a close friend of Manny, Desiree Lomack for the wonderful work of putting together a great fundraiser for the same cause.”

In March, Stanbridge students showed their solidarity for Loggins by coordinating several dinner fundraisers at the Elks Lodge and Selma’s Chicago Pizzeria in San Clemente. Students and participants wore custom shirts that listed qualities of Loggins’ character including compassion, courage, honor, and strength. At the end of the list it read, “missed.” Students also wore commemorative ribbons on the Stanbridge College campus to show their support.

According to Stanbridge College nursing graduate and coordinator of the fundraisers, Desiree Lomack, “[The fundraiser] was our own closure, not only as students who shared a class with him but also as a family who lost a dear loved one. We received our diploma in honor of Manny.”

Each quarter, Stanbridge College REACH - Beyond the Classroom™ Service Learning and Civic Engagement program raises funds for local and global causes. In 2011, Stanbridge raised funds for the victims of the tsunami in Japan, the tornadoes in Joplin, Missouri and the drought and famine in Somalia.
