Fertility Preservation Network Adds New Jersey Facility

Program greatly extends access to Fertility Preservation services

St . Paul, MN, September 07, 2012 --(PR.com)-- ReproTech, Ltd., a cryobank specializing in storage of human reproductive tissue (sperm, eggs, embryos and ovarian and testicular tissue), reached an agreement with IVF New Jersey, adding the facility to the more than 100 facilities included in ReproTech’s Fertility Preservation Network. IVF New Jersey, with offices in Somerset, Hamilton, Freehold and Short Hills, NJ, and New York City, joins the growing network of fertility centers providing much needed Fertility Preservation services to cancer patients prior to the initiation of oncology treatments.

"This is a very valuable service for cancer patients," says Brent Hazelrigg, CEO of ReproTech, Ltd. "With the growing success of cancer therapies and tremendous advancements in fertility treatment, cancer survivors today have an excellent chance of having families provided they are given the opportunity to cryopreserve reproductive tissue prior to their oncology treatment."

Dr. Marcus Jurema of IVF New Jersey says "Fertility preservation has become one of the most important aspects of cancer survivorship. Today, healthcare providers have the obligation to inform cancer patients of fertility preservation options and refer them to a fertility specialist prior to starting treatment that could adversely affect future fertility. Unfortunately, insurance companies have not yet caught up with the times and do not see the need to make this issue a covered benefit. Therefore, we at IVF New Jersey feel that offering affordable fertility preservation options is not only a moral duty but also priceless."

According to the American Cancer Society, 140,000 men and women of childbearing age are newly diagnosed with cancer each year. There often is a small window of time for them to preserve their fertility; therefore, access to cryopreservation services is extremely important. Both the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) recommend the education of oncology patients about the options available to preserve their fertility.

ReproTech, Ltd has organized the Fertility Preservation Network to educate oncology professionals and caretakers, as well as provide the much needed cryopreservation services. The network now includes members in 34 states and the Caribbean. Additionally, the work of fertileHOPE and LiveSTRONG has advanced the awareness of the need for Fertility Preservation among the oncology community.
