Credit Pro Discusses the Credit Challenges of Americans on National Radio

Jason M. Kaplan, Esq., of the Credit Pros educates listeners on Daybreak USA.

Newark, NJ, September 13, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Nationally recognized credit expert Jason M. Kaplan, Esq. was interviewed this week on the syndicated news program DayBreak USA. Jason M. Kaplan Esq., President of The Credit Pros International and Vice President of the Industry Trade Association NARCRA (http://www.narcra.org), discussed the importance of not just paying your bills on-time but account history, credit mistakes and maintaining positive lines of credit.

Most people are not educated enough about what credit is and how it works. Thus, there are tons of people who are denied for loans on a new home, car or even a job in some cases. Educating consumers on simple things such as paying your bills on-time makes a significant impact on how creditors consider you “credit-worthy.”

“America needs to wake up. We are being unknowingly and unfairly judged by our credit scores all the time,” said Kaplan.

A study released by the U.S. Public Interest Research Group proclaimed that as much as 79% of consumer reports contain major errors. These errors cost Americans millions of dollars in unjust interest, fees, and bank charges. Understanding how to manage the amount of credit you are given will ultimately result in high credit scores, which then allows you to getting the best rates for buying a home or getting approved for a loan.

Additionally, “the older an account gets, the longer you’ve had the account open and active shows that you have a good standing relationship and that you pay your bills on-time,” explained Mr. Kaplan. According to the Fair Isaac Company (FICO), the company that generates consumer credit scores, the length of credit and payment history combined makes up 50% of your score. This is extremely important as one’s credit score can be impacted significantly. Mr. Kaplan suggests “maintain open active positive accounts” and do not close any accounts because “is a Really bad thing to do,” as the age of an account is an important component to determining credit-worthiness.
