Finding a Miracle of Nature: The Hummingbird Garden Published by Outskirts Press

Author Evelyn Schwarz’s and illustrator Kitty Quinn’s children’s book is a delightful tale about the colorful, backyard world of hummingbirds and two young neighbors who gain a lesson in sharing.

Santee, CA, September 16, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Children’s author Evelyn Schwarz and illustrator Kitty Quinn announced today the release of The Hummingbird Garden, published by Outskirts Press. Their full color children’s book explores the brilliant world of hummingbirds for its young readers while presenting them with a valuable lesson in the art of sharing.

Six year old Alexis and her parents have just vacated an apartment in the city and moved into a suburban home with grass in the backyard and neighbors who have created a hummingbird sanctuary next door. While exploring her new surroundings, Alexis spies a flash of color darting by on its way to her neighbor’s yard. While peeking through a hole in the fence, Alexis discovers a wondrous sight and something she had never seen in the city.

The yard on the other side of the fence is filled with hundreds of beautiful flowers, and colorful glass balls hang from the branches of some of the trees. Magical, tiny, jewel-like birds flitter back and forth and hover in midair. Sometimes they even fly backward.

Alexis is mesmerized and can’t wait to build a similar hummingbird haven in her own backyard, but the neighbor’s son Tyler is not happy at that prospect. He’s worried that Alexis will entice all the delightful birds away from his own backyard and he’ll be left without any.

In a tale about the magic of sharing, Alexis and Tyler find that there are more than enough hummingbirds in the world to populate both yards and that sharing can be about gain, not loss.

Quinn’s exquisite illustrations capture the delicate world of hummingbirds while Schwarz’s well crafted text takes young readers and listeners pleasantly along the path of this nicely told tale.
