Dr. Dennis Birenbaum Helps Cancer Patients Cope on Weekly Radio Show

Dallas, TX, September 19, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Dr. Dennis Birenbaum, head of the Texas Hematology / Oncology Centers PA, is an outspoken advocate of cancer patients and has taken his passion to the airwaves of North Texas with an enlightening and compelling radio show that deals with important issues faced by people affected by the disease.

Dr. Birenbaum explains, "Cancer touches so many lives that I believe the subject needs to be brought out of the shadows and into the world at large. I decided to take action by starting my weekly radio show called ‘Cancer Update: A Short Walk Through a Long Journey’. There is nothing easy about cancer, but through our radio show and the open call-in format, people who are dealing with pain and uncertainty of cancer can pick up the phone each week and talk to me, an MD Anderson trained cancer doctor."

Tina Withrow, Dr. Birenbuam’s co-host on the show is a cancer patient navigator and counselor. She states, “The show has been very successful. We get calls each week from brave people who have questions or just need to talk to someone about their situation. We provide a life line to those who are seeking a caring and compassionate frontline perspective.”

Darcy Maynard, a long time listener and cancer survivor added, “I never miss the show and I always tell people who are trying to find answers or some guidance to tune in. They have frequent guest doctors who are specialists in many fields such as orthopedics and urology where cancer has been detected.”

Dr. Birenbaum continues, “On the radio show we discuss the cancer treatment experience, share promising new treatments in the news and provide insights and practical advice regarding patient care and comfort. When it comes to cancer, knowledge is power!”

A Short Walk Through a Long Journey is broadcast each Friday from 2pm – 3pm CST on KAAM Radio AM 770 in Dallas, Texas. Callers can dial 1-877-272-5226 Previously aired shows can be heard on-line by going to Dr. Birenbaum’s web site www.thocpa.com.
