William Peace University Hires Chris Duty to Serve as First Head Baseball Coach

Four-Year Baccalaureate University Expands Athletic Department with the Addition of Baseball Coach for the Spring 2014 Team

Raleigh, NC, October 04, 2012 --(PR.com)-- William Peace University (http://www.peace.edu), a private four-year university located in downtown Raleigh, has announced that Chris Duty has been named the university’s first head baseball coach. In his position, Duty will be responsible for overseeing the recruitment of high school students and junior college baseball players in an effort to build the first baseball team, which will compete in the NCAA Division III USA South Athletic Conference. Additionally, he will attend baseball showcases across the state of North Carolina, meet with local community college coaches and develop the home game baseball schedule, which will take effect in the spring of 2014.

Outside of the university, Duty serves as the athletic facility supervisor for the USA Baseball National Training Complex, located in Cary, N.C. He has coached baseball for more than four years and worked as an associate scout with the Baltimore Orioles prior to joining William Peace University.

Quotes:
“One of the most exciting opportunities you can have as a coach is being able to serve on a college campus and build a team from the ground up,” said Duty. “As baseball is a sport that has encompassed my entire life, I value the opportunity the school has given me to work alongside students and develop the talents of young collegiate athletes who will be participating in William Peace University’s baseball program.”

“As with other college campuses, the athletic programs of William Peace University serve as an opportunity to gather our student body in support of our athletes and show unwavering school spirit, so naturally we are elated to expand that feeling to the baseball field,” said Debra M. Townsley, Ph.D., President of William Peace University. “Chris’ commitment and passion for the sport of baseball and advancing the talent of young athletes is undeniable. He will serve as a wonderful asset to our university, and I look forward to the program he will build over the coming years for William Peace University.”
