Data Visualisation Competition Launched by Daden

Birmingham, United Kingdom, October 04, 2012 --(PR.com)-- A competition for the best immersive 3D visualisation, using their ground-breaking application Datascape, has been launched by Daden Limited (Daden).

Datascape provides an immersive environment in which users can explore and interact with data from almost any source. The competition asks entrants to use the free community version of Datascape and their own data (or any publicly available open datasets) to come up with breath-taking, original and compelling visualisations.

David Burden, Daden’s Managing Director said “Datascape is ground-breaking and we’re expecting visualisations that tell a story and show how the additional power of immersion can lead to better understanding and communication. We hope entrants will create some amazing and innovative ways of showcasing, visualising and making sense of their chosen dataset(s) in 3D.”

The competition invites entrants to upload and share their visualisations in four categories:

scientific/health data
social media data
business and financial data
open government data (e.g. data.gov, data.gov.uk, data.un.org)

Visualising Protein Data using Datascape
A prize will be awarded in each category for the best analysis or presentation using the application. There will also be an additional prize for the overall winner.

The competition will be judged by a panel chaired by Daden’s Managing Director, David Burden. The other judges are Andy Swarbrick, BAE Systems Detica; Marc Reeves, TheBusinessDesk.com, and Ian Nabney, Aston University.

David ends “We’re delighted to launch this competition – which is a first for Daden. We are looking forward to viewing the submissions. This is not a competition for the best video though. We are more interested in what the visualisation tells us about the data and the journey through the information.”

The competition is open to individuals, academics and commercial users with the winning entries being featured on Daden’s website and in a supporting press release. All submissions must be received by 17:00 GMT on 12 November 2012, via the Daden Website . Winners will be announced on 1 Dec 2012. Full
