William Peace University Professor David McLennan, Ph.D. to Moderate Political Party Panel Discussions

Local Four-Year Baccalaureate University to Host Republican and Democratic Panel Discussions Oct. 11 And 18 Outlining Parties’ Economic and Social Policy Principles.

Raleigh, NC, October 12, 2012 --(PR.com)-- William Peace University (http://www.peace.edu), a private four-year university located in downtown Raleigh, has announced that it will host two separate political party panel discussions in an effort to provide a more real-world understanding of what it means to be a party affiliate of the Republican and Democratic parties. With the presidential election approaching, the panel discussion will serve as a platform to evaluate the core beliefs and platforms behind each political party while examining each party’s basic political philosophies. The discussions, which are open to the public, will include question and answer sessions. David McLennan, Ph.D., political science professor, will serve as the panel moderator.

The Republican panel discussion will be held on Thursday, Oct. 11 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., located in Kenan Hall. The panel will consist of Virginia Foxx, U.S. congresswoman, Phil Kirk, former N.C. senator, Tamara Barringer, N.C. House of Representatives candidate and Greg Steele, N.C. Federation of College Republicans.

The Democratic panel discussion will be held on Thursday, Oct. 18 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., located in Kenan Hall. The lineup for the panel remains to be determined.

Quotes:
“As with every election season, the campaign issues often lead the forefront of our conversation and prevent voters from really digging to the core of what it means to align ourselves with the Republican or Democratic parties,” said Debra M. Townsley, Ph.D., president of William Peace University. “The panel discussions that William Peace University will host over the next two weeks will solely focus on the basic philosophies of each party, shedding light on the economic and social policy principles that define each. We hope that the discussions will better assist voters as we cut through the noise and get to the root of each party.”

“Both the Republican and Democratic presidential candidates have said this election will come down to what vision of America voters want, but what often is lost in the discussion is the fact those visions are based on the central truths held by both parties,” said McLennan. “I look forward to engaging my distinguished panelists in discussions designed to provide insight about the reasons why and how they endorse certain positions as members of their party. Their comments will offer a glimpse into what issues actually divide us, as well as where all parties really share common ground.”
