Local Agency Celebrates 30th Anniversary - Amistad Will be Holding an Open House to Acknowledge 30 Years of Providing Services to Individuals with Mental Illness

Amistad was created in 1982 to be a safe place where individuals with mental illness would be treated with dignity and respect. It remains true to that vision. It has since grown into the largest consumer directed agency in Maine, and a national leader in developing and delivering services that are delivered by individuals in recovery from mental health issues.

Portland, ME, October 11, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Amistad, Inc., Maine's largest consumer directed agency, celebrates it's 30th anniversary. Programs include the Peer Support and Recovery Center in Portland, a Peer Support Program inside the psychiatric Emergency Room at Maine Medical Center; and a well respected peer support program inside Riverview Psychiatric Center in Augusta.

All Amistad members, providers, elected officials, policy makers and members of the general community are cordially invited to stop by, have a tour, listen to informative presentations and join in the celebration of 30 years of dynamic and innovative services. Special guests include Commissioner Mary Mayhew, and the nationally recognized consumer leader, Gayle Bluebird.
