Rotherham, United Kingdom, October 21, 2012 --(PR.com
)-- A recent poll by David Henry Marketing based on millions of stolen passwords posted online by hackers has uncovered some unusual passwords to say the least but using simple obvious passwords is an open invitation to online fraud. Choosing "password" for example is not a good idea for obvious reasons unless you want to make it super easy for the hackers but unbelievably it ranks as the most common online password to be hacked.
The list is somewhat predicable, sequences of adjacent numbers or letters on the keyboard such as "qwerty" and "123456" are followed by names which are the name of the web site owner in many cases or just popular names such as "Ashley" or "Michael" but a couple to make the top 25 are harder to explain, "monkey" and "shadow" for example are totally random but still too easy to hack.
More recently websites now require passwords to use both numbers and letters but again many of these passwords are easy to hack, "abc123" and "trustno1" are not the hardest to detect.
Here is the list of the top 25 most hacked passwords for 2012:
David Henry Marketing urges businesses and individuals using any of the passwords above to change them immediately.
David Henry says, "Hackers can easily break into accounts now using sophisticated software so we must all place more emphasis on ensuring our own passwords are difficult if not impossible to break down and we must all change them on a regular basis, until you have suffered a major loss or even inconvenience most people ignore the very real risks."
Here are the top 3 tips by David Henry Marketing to help prevent fraud and deception:
1. Vary different types of characters in your passwords; include numbers, letters and special characters when possible.
2. Don't use the same password and username combination for multiple websites. Use an online password manager to keep track of your different accounts.
3. Choose passwords of eight characters or more. Separate short words with spaces or underscores.
Online fraud is a massive issue and a growing worldwide problem. You should all be more vigilant and ensure every precaution is taken to ensure your online safety.
