Online Radio’s Wireless Future Resides in Dashboards

Kingsland, GA, October 28, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Internet Radio has been available in cars for some time now. Online radio giants now face healthy new competition with Cyber-FM arriving alongside them in 2013 Model Year cars. GM, Ford, Chrysler, BMW/Mini and Mercedes Benz vehicles, equipped with the appropriate technology package from the factory, now have Cyber-FM in their dashboard audio systems using the Stitcher Application.

James Tylee, Co-Founder of Cyber-FM said, “This automatically adds the potential of over 650,000 new listeners to our station.” According to Stitcher CEO, Noah Shanok, more than 40% listen in their cars. Mr. Tylee continued, “This helps our internal business goals since we feature only independent and unsigned musicians; treating them as if they were on ‘mainstream radio.’ Now, we are indeed the mainstream.” Cyber-FM will begin featuring details and instructions on how to tune in during normal radio shows.

A study conducted by Arbitron and Edison Research claims the US audience for online radio has jumped more than 30% to 76 million people in the last year. “We’ve been tracking the usage of online radio in this series since 1998, and this year’s increase in weekly usage is the largest year-over-year jump we’ve ever recorded,” says Arbitron’s Bill Rose.

The study claims that smartphone growth has been one of the key factors in the rise of online radio, noting that 44% of Americans now own a smartphone, and that 17% of all mobile owners have listened to online radio streamed in their cars via their phones – up from 11% this time last year.
