NHS National EFM Contract Awarded to Asckey Data Services Until 2015

Huntingdon, United Kingdom, November 14, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Asckey Data Services Ltd has been awarded an extension of the contract to support and develop the NHS Information Centre’s EFM-Information system until 2015. The decision followed a recent OJEU review that took into account Asckey’s proven track record and unique specialism in Visual Dataflex (VDF) software, the programming language required to run the systems’ main functionality.

Asckey have worked with the Information Centre since the start of the project in 1999/2000 and in 2008 following a full OJEU tender process, they were awarded an extension to continue. The continuing aim of the EFM system is to “revolutionise the use of information to improve decision making, deliver better care and realise increased productivity.” From tackling health inequalities to commissioning, the data collected ensures decision makers are able to deliver the very best services and patient care.

This extensive data warehouse contains data relating to a number of mandatory yearly returns to be completed by trusts, ranging from estates information returns, defects, PFI, cleanliness, food and privacy & dignity issues. The EFM-Information system has been consistently developed and maintained by Asckey to provide the NHS with an accurate data collection and analysis mechanism. The NHS estate is extensive and complex with buildings that range from state of the art healthcare facilities, to hospitals that date back many years.

Mr Bernard Hill, Asckey’s Commercial Director stated "Both the physical quality of the NHS estate buildings and the estate and facilities management services provided through them are critical to the quality of patient experience. It is recognised that a good quality environment positively affects continuity of service as well as patient care and physical safety."

The EFM-Information system was the first Department of Health web-enabled data collection system for the NHS via a self-assessment process. The system contains a series of on-line modules including ERIC (Estates Return Information Collection) relating to the condition of Hospital Trust buildings. The Patient Environmental Assessment Team (PEAT) module monitors the standard of the overall patient environment and relates to patient care standards. Other modules include fire incident, surplus land and emergency preparedness.

Data from the various annual collections is automatically processed and analysed via the data warehouse, producing a range of detailed reports with essential live, real-time, health sector information including on-screen performance indicators and benchmarking charts. On a national level, ERIC data is also used by organisations such as the Healthcare Commission who use the information generated to support policy development and strategic investment planning for the NHS estate.
