)-- The American Student Dental Association announced that Daryn Lu, University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry ’15, has been selected by the ASDA board of trustees as the recipient of the 2013 Ryan Turner Memorial Scholarship. Lu himself will receive a $2,500 scholarship with an additional $500 awarded to his school’s ASDA chapter. He will receive the award at ASDA’s Annual Session, March 6-9, 2013 in Atlanta.
The annual scholarship is given in memory of Ryan Turner, who was an ASDA national leader and fourth year dental student at the University of Michigan when he passed away in January 2007. It honors those who have demonstrated the same qualities and characteristics Turner exhibited through his service to ASDA.
“The Ryan Turner Memorial scholarship allows its recipients to inspire others and commit themselves to a passionate, lifelong involvement in organized dentistry,” said Lu. “I’m humbled to be a part of those honored few.”
Lu currently serves as his ASDA chapter president-elect and is looked to as a role model by other students. Previous leadership roles include founder and president of the University of Central Oklahoma Predental Society, mentor in the Big Brothers Big Sister of Oklahoma program, member of the OUHSC Crimson Club and founder of the Student Professionalism and Ethics Association in Dentistry chapter at Oklahoma College of Dentistry.
