New Faculty for Online Health Sciences and Nursing Programs at American Sentinel

Aurora, CO, December 07, 2012 --(PR.com)-- American Sentinel University, a leading online university accredited by the Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC), a recognized member of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation, today announced the appointment of three new health sciences and nursing faculty members.

Judy Burckhardt, Ph.D., RN has joined the university as dean of nursing programs. In her new role, Dr. Burckhardt will provide leadership for the planning, growth and improvement of the nursing degree and certificate programs.

Previously, Dr. Burckhardt was the dean of nursing and health programs at Kaplan Higher Education Campuses and provided the educational leadership to meet the academic and accreditation requirements for the nursing and health programs.

She has co-authored a top-selling book of strategies for preparation for the NCLEX-RN® exam and has published numerous articles for nursing publications.

Dr. Burckhardt is also engaged with health care organizations to collaborate on curriculum to ensure that today’s nursing graduates meet the needs of these organizations. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau, National League for Nursing, American Nurses Association and the National Organization of Associate Degree Nurses.

Gloria Ohmart, Ed.D., MN, APRN will serve as the university’s associate dean of undergraduate nursing programs. Dr. Ohmart will assist in planning, organizing, supervising and ensuring the success of the RN-to-BSN program.

Dr. Ohmart has held a number of professional clinical and teaching positions throughout her career and is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse. She maintains her national board certification as a Certified Nurse Midwife. She has taught at Regis University, College America, and The University of Phoenix.

Dr. Ohmart previously served as the dean of academic affairs at Chamberlain College of Nursing and was the founding nursing dean at College America where she developed and launched the college’s first ADN program. Dr. Ohmart served as the chair of the College of Nursing at The University of Phoenix in Lone Tree, Colo.

Throughout her career, Dr. Ohmart has been a member of numerous associations, chapters and groups vital to the health care industry, including Sigma Theta Tau, 2nd Vice President of Omicron Delta Chapter, Colorado Council on Nursing Education, Colorado Nurses Association, Colorado Center for Nursing Excellence-Educational Summit Committee Member, American Nurses Association, Alliance for Clinical Educators, Program Advisory Council for College America ADN Program and International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation in Nursing.

Cheryl Wagner,Ph.D., MSN/MBA, RN will serve as the university’s associate dean of graduatenursing programs. Dr. Wagner will assist in planning, organizing, supervising and ensuring the success of the graduate nursing programs.

Dr. Wagner previously served as program director and associate professor at the College of Nursing at South University and previously taught and/or managed nursing programs at Walden University, Chamberlain University, Regis University, University of Phoenix, and Kaplan University.

Throughout her career, Dr. Wagner has also held a number of professional clinical positions and is a published author, having written 15 professional articles and book chapters in academic journals such as Journal of Advanced Nursing and Journal of Nursing Administration.

She has presented nearly 70 papers at various professional associations and is one of the new editors of the 2013 edition of the Nursing Interventions Classification, Sixth Edition.

Dr. Wagner has been a member of numerous associations, chapters and groups in the health care industry, including Sigma Theta Tau – Gamma Chapter, Iowa Organization of Nursing Leaders, Association of Critical Care Nurses, Eastern Iowa Chapter of the Oncology Nursing Society, Oncology Nursing Society, Iowa Riverbed Chapter of the Oncology Nursing Society, Emergency Nurses Association, Iowa Nurses Association, American Nurses Association, and Association of Operating Room Nurses.
