Katy, TX, December 09, 2012 --(PR.com
)-- Texas has auto insurance laws that require every motorist to carry a mandatory minimum insurance coverage but state insurance experts acknowledge that not all motorists obey the laws.
One such expert is Frank Hursh, owner of Katy, Texas based Texas Insurance Agency (http://www.insuranceagencytexas.com).
Hursh said despite the laws in the books, about 40% of all motorists on Texas roads drive without the required coverage and not protecting yourself and family with uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage is like playing Russian roulette.
“Most motorists do not know this. Every day we have clients walk into our office and reject this very important coverage. The problem is that drivers are on their own should they be involved in an accident with an uninsured or under insured motorist,” Hursh said in his office in Katy, Texas earlier today.
He warned Texas drivers that they may be risking too much by failing to buy this additional coverage.
“Remember that just because you are carrying the required coverage does not mean that the driver next to you is doing the same. Adding this coverage to your policy is essential so you are not left with big losses, car damage, bodily injury, or property damage after an accident,” Hursh said.
The Texas insurance executive added that the cost of adding this coverage is minimal compared to the potential financial ruin as a result of lack of coverage or insufficient coverage.
“Why take the risk when so many drivers are driving uninsured? Why take the risk?,” Hursh asked, adding that his company “always advices clients not taking the full or comprehensive coverage to consider the uninsured or underinsured coverage to their auto insurance policy.”
The Texas legislature added the uninsured and underinsured coverage option to allow drivers buying liability insurance a way to protect themselves and their families from those who may choose to disobey the law.
“The idea was to give drivers the option to protect themselves. One accident with an uninsured or underinsured motorist can ruin a family financially for a long time. Imagine a family bread winner being injured in an accident involving an uninsured or underinsured motorist. Who pays the bills? How does the family move on?” Hursh asked.
