Kids on Consumer Overload? It’s Time to Get Back Outside & Explore Nature’s Gifts at Sheldrake Environmental Center

This time of year, when it can be especially hard for kids to find a commercial-free zone, Sheldrake gets them outside to explore nature's gifts.

Larchmont, NY, December 14, 2012 --(PR.com)-- This time of year, as all of us are experiencing the excesses of consumerism, for kids it can be especially hard to find a commercial-free zone. Fortunately, there is no need to look any further than the outdoor trails at the beautiful Larchmont Reservoir Conservancy, where Sheldrake Environmental Center runs its December Vacation Camp.

“It’s a great season to explore and nature camp offers the perfect antidote to holiday commercialism,” says Holly Moskow, Executive Director of Sheldrake. Kids go on nature hunts to explore and make discoveries. Who's awake and who's asleep? They find winter birds, insects, egg cases (even butterflies), and, look for rabbits, deer, mice, chipmunks and squirrels. If there’s snow, they look for tracks and try to think about what animals might have made them. They also spend some time indoors at the nature center where it’s nice and cozy… for story time, eco-crafts and more.

This winter, December Vacation Camp is running from Monday through Friday, 12/24 to 12/28 (no class on 12/25, daily option available) for children ages 3 to 8.

Sheldrake Environmental Center is a non-profit organization whose mission is to inspire environmental awareness and action in the community, and to preserve, protect and enhance local environmental resources.
