ABC11 Eyewitness News Announces the Final Results of 26th Heart of Carolina Food Drive

ABC11 And Community Partners Conclude Annual Collection Benefitting North Carolina Food Banks.

Raleigh, NC, December 15, 2012 --(PR.com)-- ABC11 Eyewitness News (http://www.abc11.com) has announced that this year’s Heart of Carolina Food Drive concluded on Dec. 5, meeting its goal by raising 5.5 million pounds of food for the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina and the Second Harvest Food Bank of Southeast North Carolina. The food drive kicked off at an event on Nov.16 with ABC11 anchor John Clark serving as the food drive’s emcee. The Heart of Carolina Food Drive, sponsored by ABC11, is a community-wide food and funds drive to help stock the shelves of the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina and the Second Harvest Food Bank of Southeast North Carolina in preparation for the coming winter months. Beginning in the fall each year, the Heart of Carolina Food Drive provides assistance to more than half a million children, parents and grandparents throughout the ABC11 viewing area who are at risk for hunger.

Before officially concluding, the food drive hosted its Drive-Thru Day on Dec. 5, at which members of the ABC11 Eyewitness News family greeted food donors at several Kroger locations throughout the region as they dropped off their donations. Participating Kroger stores included locations at 1273 NW Maynard Road in Cary, 8345 Creedmoor Road in Raleigh and 3457 Hillsborough Road in Durham. In Fayetteville, ABC11 Eyewitness News collected donations at 2800 Raeford Road.

Partners in this year’s ABC11 Heart of Carolina Food Drive included Kroger, CenturyLink, and the Law Office of D. Hardison Wood, as well as the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina and the Second Harvest Food Bank of Southeast North Carolina.
