Louisiana Health Cooperative Chooses ProCare Rx as Pharmacy Benefit Manager

New Orleans, LA, February 07, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Louisiana Health Cooperative Inc. (LAHC) was selected by the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) last year to create and operate a Consumer Oriented and Operated Plan, or CO-OP in the state of Louisiana. Louisiana Health Cooperative exists to promote community health and well-being by engaging the members and providers it serves in the valued delivery of high quality, integrated health care services.

After an extensive search, the Louisiana Health Cooperative chose ProCare Rx, a national Healthcare Information Technology company as their Pharmacy Benefit Manager (PBM). ProCare Rx offers internally developed and managed technology which drives their consumer-centric model. Terry Shilling, LAHC interim CEO said, “We are excited to partner with ProCare Rx to provide the highest standard of pharmaceutical care to our members. We chose ProCare as our PBM because their financials are fully transparent and auditable. In addition, they offer the most comprehensive clinical services, lowest costs, greatest flexibility in service options, an integrated mail order and specialty pharmacy, and innovative Rx cost management solutions.”

Roger Burgess, Founder and CEO of ProCare Rx, is fully committed to the partnership with the Louisiana Health Cooperative in the development of this exciting new healthcare model. “We are committed to the compelling vision of Healthcare that CO-OPs are bringing to market,” said Burgess. “And, we believe that together we have an opportunity to change the way that healthcare is delivered and paid for in this country.”

As a value added feature to the PBM platform, ProCare Rx will deploy its Population Health offering which combines real-time claims processing, business intelligence, and clinical analysis systems for the benefit of Louisiana Health Cooperative members.

Norman Ervin, M.D., ProCare Rx’s medical director and co-creator of the Population Health system, describes this model as the next evolution in healthcare. “Managed care uses technology to drive a wedge between patients and providers, leading to an inefficient restructuring of care management practices,” he said. “Population Health Management uses technology to support the existing doctor-patient relationship, while helping to better align the interests of the patient, provider and plan sponsor.”
