Brooklyn Children’s Theatre Granted 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Status

Contributions donated to Brooklyn Children’s Theatre are now fully tax-deductible since they are officially a public charity under Section 501(c)(3) of the United States Internal Revenue Code.

Brooklyn, NY, February 11, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Brooklyn Children’s Theatre (BCT), a children’s musical theatre program that presents new and original works written by local writers, is proud to announce it is now officially a public charity under Section 501(c)(3) of the United States Internal Revenue Code.

Contributions donated to Brooklyn Children’s Theatre are fully tax-deductible. BCT is also now eligible to apply for government and foundation grants, which will further broaden its access to resources and strengthen its ability to give opportunities to children who have an interest in pursuing the theatrical arts, regardless of their economic situation.

"Obtaining 501(c)(3) status is a major milestone for Brooklyn Children’s Theatre," said Director and Co-founder Amy Graves. “Though we have always behaved as a non-profit organization, in recent years, it became essential for BCT to convert to legitimate non-profit status as our expenses and need for scholarships increased. Specifically, in the past two years we have doubled our teen programming and are serving a larger population of low-income teens than ever before. The productions we mount for the teenagers have high expenses and do not bring in a lot of revenue. However, this programming remains essential. The teens come to us well before their rehearsals begin because they need somewhere to go. They work on and develop skills that they are immensely proud of. Further, they have built a family together that they can trust and depend on.”

The IRS letter granting Brooklyn Children’s Theatre its 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status is available upon request.
