This work is inspired by the stunning documentary film "The Unmistaken Child" directed by Nati Baratz. It tells the story of the real life experience of a Buddhist monk named Tenzin in his quest to find the reincarnation of his Master, the world-renowned Tibetan Buddhist Lama Konchog, in the body of a young child.

The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and won more than 20 awards both in the U.S. and internationally, including Korea, England, Poland and Israel; awards included Best Soundtrack at the Israeli Documentary Filmmakers Forum, 2009. It was also listed as one of the “Best of 2009" movies and films by Kenneth Turan of the LA times.

Lorelei Chang, the Artistic Director of dancEnlight who is originally from Beijing, China, takes us on a soulful journey with all its challenges. While creating "Sacred Existence," Lorelei was motivated by the devotion of the monk to his master and the concept of caring for others. This production has fourteen chapters of dance that captures the "Sacred Existence" of over 700 years of Buddhist teaching. Using the moving original music from the film, composed by Cyril Morin, and some original tracks, the dancers will translate the film’s scenes physically, and add an interpretive ending.

Special guests Jonah Rodriguez and Brielle Polidoro from Connecticut Concert Ballet will share the role of the young child. There will be Question and Answer sessions after each performance. On Saturday evening, a reception will be held in the Auditorium lobby; tea sampling will be supplied by the Green Teahouse of Blue Back Square.

Also in the audience on Saturday will be Khensur Rinpoche Lobsang Tenzin, Geshe Wangdak, a personal devotee of the Dalai Lama, who now resides at the Chenrezig Tibetan Buddhist Center in Middletown, Connecticut.
