Case Study: Austrian Neonatal Nurses Give New babyLance Heelstick Perfect Safety Score

Clinical Use Studies Also Show 94-Percent Score for Ease-of-Use, Ergonomics and Performance Tests

Atlanta, GA, March 02, 2013 --(PR.com)-- MediPurpose(tm), a manufacturer and master distributor of medical products, today announced the publication of a new case study, "Reinventing a Better babyLance(tm) Safety Heelstick Device: Austrian Clinical Use Design Validation Studies."

The case study presents an overview of clinical use studies that MediPurpose's exclusive Austrian medical product distributor Medikus conducted at three Austrian neonatal healthcare facilities in 2012 prior to the launch of its redesigned babyLance(tm) safety heelstick device.

The results consistently indicated that Austrian users found babyLance to be satisfactory for:

* Safety: babyLance's safety features protected the user from accidental needlestick injury

* Training: babyLance's instructions for use (IFU) and intuitive design fostered ease of use

* Ergonomics: The device and its packaging were comfortable and easy to use

* Trigger: The new "pull-back" trigger was comfortable and easy to use

* Usage: Compared to the user's current device, babyLance was easy to use, and its precise incision provided an adequate volume of blood for collection

Notably, the studies returned a perfect score for safety and a 94-percent score for ease-of-use, ergonomics and performance tests.

"We were delighted with the very positive responses from babyLance's clinical use tests in Austria," said MediPurpose founder and CEO Patrick Yi, who led the heelstick design team. "Along with validating the numerous improvements we made to the new babyLance, it was affirming to learn that Austrian neonatal nurses were enjoying the same levels of experience with the device as nurses in the United States."

According to the case study, heelstick devices have not yet become a prominent device for infant heelstick incision procedures in Europe, which can be performed several times a day to collect blood samples. Rather than heelsticks, European caregivers typically use fingerstick devices (such as the SurgiLance(tm) safety lancet).

"It is our hope that European nurses will continue to discover the wealth of advantages with using a safety heelstick instead of a fingerstick," said Yi. "Among other reasons, infant heelsticks-such as babyLance-are precisely engineered to reduce trauma to an infant's heel, yet providing adequate volumes of blood for collection."

About babyLance Safety Heelsticks

The new babyLance safety heelstick is a fully redesigned iteration of MediPurpose's original safe, easy and effective heelstick device.

It is also the only heelstick to receive U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearance with sharps prevention indications, which permits the company to market babyLance as a safety medical device in the United States of America.

Used by neonatal caregivers to collect blood samples from infants, the new babyLance features an ergonomic design to provide a secure and stable grip.

Combined with a redesigned trigger mechanism, the heelstick device is easy to activate, helping to deliver a consistent incision without damaging the baby's tender nerve fibers.

babyLance heelstick devices are available in two models:

* The babyLance BLP (Preemie), which delivers an incision depth of 0.85 mm.
* The babyLance BLN (Newborn), which delivers an incision depth of 1.00 mm.
