Andrew Shecktor Announces His Candidacy for Mayor of Berwick, PA

Andrew Shecktor announced today his candidacy for Mayor of Berwick, PA. Andrew's primary goal as Mayor would be to increase citizen participation in crime prevention and preservation of local culture and history.

Berwick, PA, March 15, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Andrew Shecktor announced today that he filed his petition to run for Mayor of Berwick on Monday, March 11. All text in quotes below are comments made by Andrew Shecktor.

Andrew has been a resident of Berwick for seven years and is no newcomer to local politics. He took time off to raise a family and now is ready to get back in the action. “Now is the time to take affirmative action and get the residents involved in stopping crime and illegal activity. We need an active town watch and Community Emergency Response Team. Together we can all be the 'eyes and ears' of the community.”

Andrew has been a long time member of the emergency services, including the fire service, emergency operations as a ham radio operator and military communications. He has held executive positions in all these services. He has been extremely active in the community since he moved to Berwick and as a professional artist has been active with the North Mountain Art League. He regularly donates his artwork to charitable causes, and would like to see arts and crafts included in the next Berwick River-fest. “We need to save our culture and our history. Our historical buildings and our one-screen Berwick Theater need to be saved – they are rare and valuable assets that make our community unique.”

Andrew is currently employed as a sales consultant at Network Solutions. He was a center manager for GE Capital and has been a call center manager for several companies. He served as technical consultant for former Congressman John Fox and was a consultant to former Congressman Larry Coughlin. Andrew considers himself a representative to all parties, being committed to considering all options and then doing what is best and most cost effective, not what is popular or “expected.” He is vocal and well spoken, but also open to listening to opposing views. “No one is perfect – we all need a little help from others - that is why it is called a 'community', we all should be working together.”

“My campaign motto is 'Google Me'. What I mean by this is that the Internet is a representation, good and bad, of a person's accomplishments. If you Google me (or even just 'Mayor Berwick') you will find a wealth of information, past and present and can see many of my accomplishments. Will you find any other past or present Mayor or Mayor candidate? That is for you to find out, but I assure you there is precious little to be found. It is truly difficult to not be found on the Internet today if your are actively accomplishing anything.”

The duties of a borough Mayor are extremely limited, but very important. In addition to the management of the police department and assisting with the council and community activities, the Mayor should be the eyes, ears and mouth of the residents. The Mayor should answer any allegations and respond to community issues. The Mayor should be available to speak with citizen groups and should have a forum for residents to post issues.

“Together we can build a better Berwick for our residents, for our visitors and for our next generation. We have a great community, a wonderful culture and a colorful history. If we work together we can be great again!”
