A New Documentary Project Explores How Society Addresses Mental Illness in Teens

Announcement of an upcoming documentary film exploring society's reaction to adolescent mental illness from two Lehigh Valley filmmakers.

Bethlehem, PA, March 19, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Independent filmmakers Kyle Mahaney, of Stroudsburg, and Jessie Minor, of Easton, have formed a collaborative partnership under the banner of “Five Blade Films.” The team’s first project, Out of Sight, is currently shooting throughout the Lehigh Valley and surrounding areas. Out of Sight explores the social stigmas surrounding mental illness in adolescents. It focuses on the motivations behind parents who feel it unnecessary to address or acknowledge their children’s mental illness or self-harming activity. The project involves extensive interviews with a wide variety of cases, from adolescents to adults, as well as commentary from mental health professionals and concerned parents. The film tells the gritty story of just how common self-harm is among youth in our communities.

I'm so excited to be working on this film. Holding a personal connection to the message we're trying to convey just makes me all the more passionate about it. I truly believe this holds an important meaning that needs to be addressed and heard, so that's my goal. – Jessie Minor, Co-director

The film is aiming for a premiere at a major festival in early 2015, with a limited theatrical release and video on demand release following shortly after.

Five Blade Productions is a film collaboration seeking to empower individuals to contribute to their community through informative documentary subjects.
