4th Annual Beard & Moustache Competition for Charity

Wichita, KS, March 22, 2013 --(PR.com)-- 4th Annual Beard and Moustache Competition to Benefit Haven of the Ozarks No-Kill Animal Sanctuary and The Wounded Warrior Project

The Queen City Beard and Moustache Federation, a local chapter of the Beard Team USA, is currently preparing for their 4th Annual Beard and Moustache Competition to be held at Patton Alley Pub on Saturday, April 20th at 6pm. The Meet & Greet will take place the night before at Mother’s Brewing Company at 6pm, featuring local band, Goat Milk Honey.

The "Federation" has raised more than $10k for local and national charities since they loosely organized at the end of 2010. The group’s mission is to use facial hair as a means to have fun and make new friends, volunteer in the community and hold fundraisers. Having grown from 14 contestants in their first competition to 65 last year, they are now expecting a turnout from at least three states and would like to raise over $8k from this year’s event.

"The Federation, as a group, has been one of the Haven's biggest supporters and we could not provide the services that we do without their help. I have participated in this competition for the last two years. It is always a great time for a great cause and I’m honored that the Haven is a recipient of the donation this year. It's another instance of furry critters helping furry critters," says John Lundman, Vice President of Board of Directors at Haven of the Ozarks No-Kill Animal Sanctuary.

Thanks to event sponsors, they have already raised $2250 for their charities. Mother’s Brewing Company, Clark & Son’s Pools, Parmele Law Firm, His Image Haircuts, Hudson Hawk Barber & Shop, Billings Barber Company and Aura Face + Body are among the higher level sponsors.

There are 10 categories for the competition broken into four major categories this year: Moustache, Partial Beard, Full Beard and Fake. Contestant registration is $15 and spectators pay $5 at the door or bring an old baseball glove to be donated to Gloves For Troops. There will be a silent auction the night of the event, a raffle for many items including an iPad Mini and live music immediately following the competition by local blues icon, The Norman Jackson Band. Contestants who pre-register online by April 13 will receive a Free event t-shirt. Registration is available on the day of the event from 2:30-5pm.

Local moustache man and meteorologist, Tom Trtan, is returning as an event judge this year as well as Christian Hutson, owner of Just For Him gentlemen’s boutique and Liza, owner of His Image Haircuts.
