Funky Divas and Dudes: Giving Children a Platform for Expression, Entertainment and Healthy Development

Funky Divas and Dudes is expanding their influence in Los Angeles by launching a new performing arts camp and partnering with Sports-Champs.

Los Angeles, CA, April 03, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Funky Divas and Dudes, based in Los Angeles, is reinventing the whole creative concept of running a kids camp. They’re giving kids an outlet of expression, entertainment and connectivity within Los Angeles, while at the same time fostering positive health habits for the future. Funky Divas and Dudes believes that kid’s personalities should shine in an environment in which the development of their imaginations and minds are constantly supported.

Kelly Lyans, one of the partners of Funky Divas, described the idea behind the business, “The idea originated from my aunt, who works at a preschool in Glendale. She said there was a dance teacher that came into her school once a week, to teach Hip-Hop to the kids, the parents paid the teacher directly, like her own little business. Thought I could make good extra money doing this, since I'd been a dance teacher for years. Dana Marie and I met working for a local Deejay company dancing at Bar/Bat Mitzvah’s after college. We decided to start this company together to free up our time for acting and dance auditions.” And the rest is history. Ever since, Funky Divas and Dudes has been giving kids all around the Los Angeles area, a platform of expression and entertainment through their camps and their private dance lessons. In describing their mission, Lyans stated, “We promote a healthy life-style for kids by doing fun-physical activity, teaching kids to express themselves through music and movement, and helping them build self-esteem. It's the greatest feeling to have parents tell us how much we've impacted their child’s life.” This is the kind of positive reinforcement in a child’s life that can promote healthy physical, emotional and social growth and maturity in a fun and encouraging way.

This year, Funky Divas and Dudes is expanding their influence by offering more dance classes at new schools and putting on more birthday parties. They are also in the process of launching a performing arts summer camp that will be open to the public and will take place at various locations around Los Angeles, as well as at Grant Elementary School in Santa Monica. These camps will range from a variety of activities including dance classes, music videos, fairytale theatre plays, TV commercials, comedy TV, arts & crafts, waterplay games etc Funky Divas and Dudes is also partnering with Sports-Champs, an innovative sports camp for kids.
