Cool Queue Studios’ Galactic Domination Online Kickstarter Project Passes the 30 Day Mark

With less than 30 days remaining on the Galactic Domination Online Kickstarter project, Scott Quiggle and Cool Queue Studios release an article providing more insight into the game design in hopes of drawing more interest.

San Diego, CA, April 25, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Independent start-up game development company Cool Queue Studios is running a Kickstarter project to support the development of its first title Galactic Domination Online (GDO). Company president Scott Quiggle describes the game in one long breath as “An epic scale massively multiplayer science fiction space strategy game that is browser based, free to play, and aimed at the social media gaming market.” He further explains “Everyone uses the term epic to describe strategy games. The design of GDO is aggressive enough in scale, content, and functionality to more than one up any similar offerings already on the market. Therefore, when we use epic, we mean it.”

Galactic Domination Online tells a story that sets players up on the outer rim of the galaxy. After nearly a Millennium of war with a machine race know as The Core who are bent on the genocide of all biologicals, the few remaining worlds of four surviving races receive a reprieve from total annihilation as a result of an unexplained galactic phenomenon. Players are given control of their world with the goal to rebuild their civilization, return to space, and regain systems lost to The Core. They will work together to defeat the machines, form alliances to fend off opposing races, as well as compete with each other for systems and resources as they race to take control of the object at the core of the galaxy.

Quiggle aims at creating differentiation from a familiar genre. “The idea of making a game on the galactic scale… empires in space… is far from new. But our design is implementing features that put a spin on the familiar that make the game very replayable. There are four different races that can be played, each with their own unique strengths and weaknesses. Ships, characters, and even the UI (user interface) will be unique to the race being played. Each galaxy is intelligently randomly generated, so the playing field is never the same.

"Social features including diplomacy, alliances, and two layers of reputation both limit and create choices that can be made in game play. Our game features a ton of original artwork that will enhance game play as well as stir the imagination. We also allow players to configure their communications officer to notify (or not) them of significant events taking place within the game while they are away from it. A leader may want to know when an enemy invasion fleet is detected approaching one of their colonies.

"Players can use the mysterious LDVCorporation to create memory imprinted genetic backups of characters, purchase clones of famous leaders from the past, or get technological boosts for lagging research projects. Players can customize ships as they are being constructed, or retrofit old ships with new technology. They can recruit and train armies of soldiers from their population for use as colony homeland defenders, or as space marines. They will manage the growth and economy of their empire. They will recruit and manage their own character-leaders for science, government, and military. They will be able to trade rare and unique commodities with other players.”

Quiggle discussed some of what has inspired GDO. "Long ago I created a play-by-mail game called Galactic Domination. That was inspired by board games like Star Fleet Battles and the Star Trek Tactical Combat simulator. Sid Meier’s Civilization PC game was also a huge inspiration. The opportunity to make an improved game for gamers within the social media market today was ripe, and we felt that we could make something great from the origins of something very old. It’s a familiar genre with a new story, new features, and new functionality on a massive scale."
