Integral Technical Services Speaks to San Jacinto College Grant Recipients

Recruitment firm shares tips for success with H-LSAMP and T-STEM Scholars.

Houston, TX, May 04, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Darin Clark, vice president of talent acquisition at recruitment firm Integral Technical Services, recently spoke at San Jacinto College’s H-LSAMP and T-STEM Recognition Reception, where over 100 students were awarded scholarships to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, math and other related fields.

The grants were awarded by the Texas Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (T-STEM) Challenge Scholarship Program and the Houston-Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (H-LSAMP), the latter of which is committed to increasing the number of underrepresented minorities pursuing baccalaureate degrees within STEM fields.

Clark, a San Jacinto College alumnus, spoke to the recipients about another vital component to career success that is often overlooked — soft skills.

“These students are well-positioned for a successful future, and I want them to be fully aware that how they present themselves carries as much weight as their grades and experience,” said San Jacinto College Mathematics Department Chair, James Sells, who asked Clark to speak.

During his presentation, “Being Prepared for the Working World,” Clark focused on communication skills, pre- and post-interview tips, appearance and perception, how to sell your accomplishments, and the importance of being savvy about what you choose to share online.

“Houston is the hub for STEM careers right now, so there’s a lot of opportunity at their fingertips and I don’t want anything to jeopardize that,” said Clark. “Being mindful of how you present yourself, both in person and online, can easily influence the end result.”
