Sacramento, CA, May 06, 2013 --(PR.com)-- The retrospective “Everyday Light: Oil Paintings by Hearne Pardee,” comes to the Alex Bult Gallery in May 2013. The paintings cover three decades (1976-2006) of Pardee’s plien-air observations of landscapes and outdoor scenes in various locales throughout the United States. The breadth of the work and the tone evoked by each location should give viewers an opportunity to experience Pardee’s development as an artist.

In the early 1970’s, after receiving his B.A. from Yale, Pardee was living in New York attending the New York Studio School when he began working outside. Some of his work from that era calls to mind Edward Hopper’s urban scenes. While his time in New Mexico and other parts of the Southwest offers work of a more romantic nature.

Pardee, currently with the Department of Art and Art History at UC Davis, and his wife, painter Gina Werfel, moved for various teaching positions over the years and the exhibition also features landscapes from the coast of Maine, Virginia and California.

The paintings will be on display beginning Tuesday, May 7 through Saturday, June 1. An opportunity to meet and speak to Pardee will be possible during the preview on Thursday, May 9 from 6 – 8 pm, and at the artist reception on Saturday, May 11, from 6 – 9 pm, at the gallery.

Pardee received his MFA from Columbia University in 1975. Since 1981, he has been exhibiting work at the Bowery Gallery in New York, NY, and recently celebrated his 12th show there. His artwork has also been seen at the Weigand Gallery, Belmont, CA, John Natsoulas Gallery, Davis, CA, Second Street Gallery in Charlottesville, VA, Congress Square Gallery, Portland, ME, and the French National Theater, Caen, France, among many others.

The Alex Bult Gallery is located in midtown Sacramento at 1114 21st Street, Suite B. The gallery hours are 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. (916) 476-5540. alexbultgallery.com
