More Than 6,000 Pounds of Pet Food Shipped to West, TX

Seattle, WA, May 09, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Rescue Bank delivered nine pallets (6,033 lbs) of donated pet food to Waco, Texas, on April 25 – a delivery made possible by millions of animal lovers clicking at GreaterGood's The Animal Rescue Site. The donated food is being used by the Humane Society of Central Texas to feed pets displaced by the recent explosion in West, Texas.

Rescue Bank Executive Director Elizabeth Asher and board member Cynthia Nesser accompanied the delivery. “We were able to observe the food, donated by Royal Canin, a division of Mars Pet Care, unloaded at Humane Society,” said Asher, “and tour their very small shelter.” Asher noted that the group provided housing for approximately one hundred animals after the blast, and will continue to help families with the care and feeding of their pets as the town rebuilds.

Every month, Rescue Bank delivers thousands of pounds of pet food to animal rescue and adoption groups courtesy of The Animal Rescue Site’s “Click Here To Give” program and Mars Petcare US, makers of PEDIGREE® and WHISKAS® brands. In April, other deliveries also included a distribution in Dallas of 32 pallets (39,427 lbs) for other Texan animal rescue groups and shelters, 33 pallets at PAWS NY (Long Island) for animal groups and those still dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, 32 pallets (39,691 pounds) at AlterPet in Ohio, 41 pallets (42,683 pounds) at No Kill Louisville in Kentucky, and 34 pallets (13,763 pounds) at Ozark Haven Rescue in Missouri.

At every distribution point, literally dozens of rescue groups and their volunteers come to unload the trucks and fill up the bowls at their shelters and foster homes. Asher stated that these type of donations not only help feed pets today but also free up funds for groups to expand spay/neuter programs, vaccinations, and other vital services for their communities.
