Renowned TV Personality Don Polec to Make His Live Stage Debut in “The Odd Couple” Presented by Newtown Arts Company

Newtown, PA, May 28, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Esteemed television personality Don Polec, well-known by fans of Philadelphia’s Channel 6 “Action News” as well as ABC’s “Good Morning America,” is slated to tackle a new challenge, appearing in his first live theatre production. Mr. Polec will be in the cast of “The Odd Couple,” presented by Newtown Arts Company for a limited run June 20 through 26 at the historic Newtown Theatre, 120 N. State Street, Newtown, Pa.

Mr. Polec can be thought of as the precursor of YouTube. For over 20 years at a time before the Internet, cell-phone-cameras and videos that go viral, he produced two minute segments on the quirky and out-of-the-ordinary events that go on all around us. These “Don Polec’s World” features were a highlight of newscasts three nights a week. He also brought his unique observations to “Good Morning America” as a feature correspondent. He consistently won accolades for “Best Feature” from the Philadelphia Press Club and The Associated Press every year from 1983 to 1994.

Don will be portraying the role of Vinnie in Neil Simon’s Tony-Award-winning comedy, which is being reprised by Newtown Arts Company for its 30th anniversary season of providing entertainment for theatre lovers in Bucks County. Proceeds from the company’s shows help fund scholarships for young students pursuing higher education in the arts, and this year’s awards will mark over $100,000 in scholarships awarded since their inception. “The Odd Couple” is produced by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc.

Asked about this appearance, Don Polec jokes in his off-beat way, “It’ll be nice to be in a show where people can’t just click me off with a remote control.”

Curtain times for “The Odd Couple” are Thursday, June 20 at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, June 21 and Saturday, June 22 at 8 p.m.; Sunday, June 23 at 3 p.m.; Tuesday, June 25 and Wednesday, June 26 at 7:30 p.m.
