Roteck Improves Metal Detector Function

Roteck has improved the functionality of its walk through metal detectors to avoid a design-flaw evident in all walk through metal detectors.

Johannesburg, South Africa, May 31, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Roteck recently made an interesting discovery; in fact it discovered a design flaw in the models of walk through metal detectors it sells, and this flaw is found on ALL types of walk through metal detectors manufactured by all suppliers around the world.

A walk through metal detector is normally designed so that a light-beam has to be broken before the detector will actually perform a scan, in other words someone has to walk through the detector.

This light-beam is usually at a height of around 60-80cm from the ground. Roteck realized that this design allows the detector system to be exploited, if the system is unmanned or if the guards are not watching 100% of the time: someone who wishes to take a metal object past the detector can simply kick it along the ground ahead of them. Doing so will send the object - undetected - to the other side of the detector, where the person may pick it up after they pass through without setting off any alarm. This can obviously result in undesirable or even dangerous situations.

On discovering this weakness, Roteck promptly developed an optional add-on for all Roteck walk through metal detectors. This add-on sensor will eliminate the possibility of the "kick-through" scenario, preventing even small metal objects from passing through the detector without setting off an alarm.
