)-- The book "Me on Me" (published by iUniverse) is now available. In this book, Jan Gero introduces his groundbreaking work of non-fiction writing. Gero has spent fifty years processing his personal journey through a sometimes chaotic life — writing, drawing, and speaking his journals to gain psychological insight and personal development.
For Gero, self-examination is the ultimate challenge and key to self-empowerment. He would like his readers to grasp the benefits of the process of self examination and inspire them to look deeper into their own existence. To this end, Gero lays bare his life — from intense relationships
with wives and lovers, to parents’ deaths, to warm but messy reunions with daughters and grandchildren.
The book, "Me on Me," and its sequel "More Me on Me," will move readers to the core; they reveal the tragic-comic complexity of family, romance and above all, one’s relationship with oneself. The books, each with seven stories culled from his journal-writing life, contain many drawings, compelling in their intimacy.
“I went into the red-tiled kitchen where she was preparing her 'bitter tea', a disagreeable brew a Curandera advised her to take for parasites in her intestines. I stayed as she prepared it, embracing her once or twice. We stood a while holding each other, which turned into a slight grinding motion, pelvis to pelvis. We even did a little abdominal breath-sound as she said Aztec Indians do. Then we went easily up her ornate Spanish staircase to her bedroom and into her high bed which was freezin' cold. We went into it with socks and several t-shirts on. We brought new hot water bottles. We rubbed and gently pounded each other into warmth and considerable sexual energy.” Me On Me – Mexico story.
Gero emerges as a literary light of positive energy to all those who, like himself, find themselves at the last chapters of their existence. His emotional stories pierce the veil of seeming reality to touch the amorphous shapes that lie within. These fragments of life are, indeed, the substance of the human condition, and "journaling" is the most life-enriching exploration of that condition.
The books are available in English language, ISBN-13 978-1462043637 and also as an E-Book, ASIN: B00797OXFK and ASIN: B006WP3K1I.
