)-- IMR Test Labs – Singapore announces an expansion of the facility’s metallurgical capabilities with the acquisition of a Zeiss Scanning Electronic Microscope (SEM) with Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDX/EDS). This new capability allows IMR to offer high-quality failure analysis services, including metallurgical failure analysis, fractography, elemental analysis, and high-resolution photomicrographs.
IMR’s analytical power is increased with the SEM, as it provides detailed insight into the failure mechanism of a material/part, as well as any contributing factors. Adding the X-ray Spectroscope provides the ability to get elemental composition of samples including contaminants, corrosion products and debris, as well as to make elemental maps to show the distribution of contaminants.
