What People Are Saying:

"She has a vocal style and ability to make you feel like you know her." - Centric

“A product of Cleveland, the town that gave us Tracy Chapman, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Conya Doss manages to embody all those disparate aesthetics-and then some." - Vibe

“An embarrassment of riches isn't a phrase generally associated with today's music. One exception: the next-generation R&B emanating from the likes of Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, India.Arie, Alicia Keys and Angie Stone. Well, make room for this strong contender – Conya Doss. Her engaging voice, whose slight rasp adds to her organic vibe.” - Billboard

“If Eric Roberson is the King of Independent Soul Music, then Conya Doss has got to be in line for the Queendom.” - Soulbounce

Packed with the momentum of Conya's projects, over the last year, these shows were a pure delight for long-time fans. In between shows, Conya Doss has kept herself busy by joining forces with BET's Rap-IT-UP, Award-winning Change MY Story, and the global effort, Keep the Promise, to help raise awareness regarding HIV and AIDS. A few weeks ago, Conya Doss joined Grammy Award winning artist, Brandy, Civil rights leader, Julian Bond, and over 1,100 marchers to remind local and national leaders that the war on AIDS has not been won. Although busy touring after the 2012 release of her 6th album, A Pocketful of Purpose, Conya Doss regularly infuses philanthropy into the busy life of an artist, mom, and mentor. The artist that is Conya Doss seamlessly blends with the philanthropist as she has also raised awareness for the Global Water Crisis, human trafficking, childhood obesity and the need for teen mentors.

About Conya Doss. Singing since she was five, Doss’ musical influences run the gamut of Donnie Hathaway, Stevie Wonder, Natalie Cole, Chaka Khan, Prince, and Sade. In a Soul Train.com (http://train.com/) interview Conya states that “I had exposure to a wide genre of music from Nina Simone to Stevie Wonder to Charlie Pride to Steely Dan. The music that I create has a touch of everything. I call it “Musical Gumbo.” Music just gives me a feeling that’s connected with my soul, so much emotion. I want my music to inspire, just as I was inspired by those who were before me.” She attended the Cleveland School of the Arts along with Avant, became a teacher of children with special needs in the Cleveland Public School system, and began using music in her classroom as a way to connect with her students. The world owes thanks to a heartfelt letter from one of her students which inspired her debut album “A Poem About Ms. Doss.”

In 2001, Conya started her own recording label Conya Doss Songs and began recording her first album. Despite industry pressure to adapt to become mainstream, Doss chooses to “keep it real” and trust that her destined musical path will be realized. Six albums and over a decade later, Conya Doss is still making music for her fans. Visit www.conyadoss.com to find out more about her.
