)-- This summer parents can keep kids physically active and mentally engaged by signing them up for Get Fit Weight Loss Day Camp. Designed to help overweight youths lose and manage their weight, kicks-off July 16 through August 10, 2013 at Vegas Roots Garden, 715 Tonopah Ave, Las Vegas;Tuesday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m. Registration is now open to girls ages 11 to 14; the program provides tools to combat obesity along with the classic summer camp experience.
Camp Get Fit approaches weight and overall health and nutrition with an emphasis not only on weight loss, but also long-term weight management. The camp includes education about fitness and healthy eating as well as tools for empowerment – considering many issues children and teens face today.
The goal of the camp is though planned activities is to help teenage girls get a jump start to losing weight, by teaching them how to make better choices and to live a healthier, active lifestyle, opportunities to take on new responsibilities, gain independence, and develop essential social skills and new relationships to help kids learn, grow and thrive as individuals and in groups.
“Managing weight is hard for everyone, but for a teenager, it’s extremely difficult,” said Rosalind Books, camp founder and Director, Vegas Roots Garden. “Our goal is to send every camper home feeling better about themselves.”
Parents must participate in two nutrition classes with their children and are encouraged to help their kids unplug from technology and explore all the camp has to offer.
Daily activities at the camp include dodge ball, zumba, hip hop, gardening, daily nutrition lesson where the girls will learn to prepare nutritious meals.
