Debut Novel Goes Live on Kickstarter -- Beauty Tips for the Bereaved by Sunny Haralson
Beauty Tips for the Bereaved, written and illustrated by Sunny Haralson, launched its Kickstarter campaign June 19, 2013 to raise $17,500 to print paperbacks and go on a book tour. The book also marks the debut of its publisher, the Austin-based small press, Vivian Valentine Press.

Beauty Tips for the Bereaved is the comic coming-of-age story of a young woman born to generations of poverty, who overcomes recovered memory syndrome, a cut-throat custody battle, and her father's decline from hepatitis C to emerge triumphant.
Sunny Haralson is an artist, writer, and designer living in Austin, Texas. Her dress company, Ruby Pearl Dresses, has enjoyed huge success for over a decade. She won the 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser/Gen Art Designer Award and the 2008 Texas Writers' League Award for Best Narrative Nonfiction Manuscript. Sunny is also well known across the country as the designer of the red dress that launched the Traveling Red Dress, a self-help movement that encourages women to feel empowered by wearing and then sharing a red dress.
Austin-based Vivian Valentine Press is the newest project for Kayte VanScoy, who has over 20 years of experience in publishing & media that includes working as a graphic designer, beat reporter, magazine journalist, radio host, talking head, film producer, online content developer, educational publisher, content marketer, and a seemingly infinite number of commas. Vivian Valentine Press is a small press specializing in homemade books and e-books. Homemade because Kayte personally edits and packages each title, providing marketing, sales, and author development services from her home and heart.
