TransVault Product Team Works with Symantec to Streamline Journal Archive Migrations

Next release of Symantec Enterprise Vault to enable organizations with compliance-led archives to move quickly and easily using TransVault archive migration software.

Bristol, United Kingdom, July 05, 2013 --(PR.com)-- TransVault Software has today announced an important new compliance feature for organizations migrating legacy archives into Symantec Enterprise Vault.

Organizations that need to meet U.S. and international regulations such as SEC rule 17a-4 and SOX maintain a copy of all their emails sent and received in a journal. This service captures the email itself along with a record of all the individuals that have received a copy of the email.

Known as envelope information, losing this vital recipient data would jeopardize the validity of any future eDiscovery case, as not all the people that received any given email would be included in an investigation.

According to Matt Bonetti, Chief Technologist at TransVault, “Many customers choose to archive their email journals because they get so big, but the challenge comes when they decide to switch to using a new archive.

"To move envelope journals into Enterprise Vault we previously needed to restore their contents back into Microsoft Exchange from where they would get re-archived. This was the only way to recreate the original recipient details and meant a circuitous and lengthy migration path. In many cases organizations would decide not to move their journal archives at all, preventing progress onto a new archive platform.

"We have been working in collaboration with the Symantec development team responsible for Enterprise Vault and are pleased to report that our flagship product, TransVault Migrator, will be able to directly pass across envelope data using new 'hooks' added to the Enterprise Vault API."

Explained Barney Haye, TransVault CEO, “We are really delighted that Symantec has plans to deliver this important capability with their next release, 10.0.4. Symantec has long been the dominant player in the email archiving marketplace. This new capability is going to streamline the migration of compliant data into their platform, ultimately reducing the barriers, costs and time for enterprise customers to take that journey with Symantec.”
