Minnesota Sinfonia Presents Junior Composers Winning Composition at Annual Youth Outreach Concert

Minneapolis, MN, July 05, 2013 --(PR.com)-- The Minnesota Sinfonia is proud to present the Junior Composers Competition winning composition, “Waves of Feeling” by Jayson Elliot at it’s annual Youth Outreach Concert. 25 young talented musicians are also scheduled to perform Tchaikovsky’s “Symphony No. 5 in e minor, opus 64” with the Minnesota Sinfonia as part of the Sinfonia’s Youth Outreach Week where student musicians get a chance to see first hand what life is like as a professional musician.

Also featured on the program is “Overture to the Barber of Seville” by Gioachino Rossini.

The concert will be held 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 19 at Lake Harriet Bandshell,
 4135 W Lake Harriet Pkwy,
 Minneapolis, MN 55419. Admission is free and children are welcome to attend. Audience members should arrive early—all concerts are first-come, first-seated.

Junior composer Jayson Elliott is entering his Senior year at Air Academy High School in Colorado Springs and has won many awards for his solo and ensemble playing as well as his compositions for piano, vocal/instrumental ensemble and band. Jayson is part of the Air Academy marching band, advanced jazz band and chamber choir. He is an “in demand” accompanist for any musicals or s cvolo/ensemble festivals. Jayson also takes the time to play for services at St. Patrick Parish.

Music has been a passion for Jayson since he was very young. He began studying piano seriously at the age of 10 and continued to expand his familiarity with instruments in middle school, becoming an accomplished flute and saxophone player, and while volunteering at summer band camps he learned the other band instruments as well. Jayson began composing when he was eleven, but he really became serious when he was fourteen and his compositions began earning acknowledgement at the State level through NFMC. MTNA Composition winner for Colorado and runner up for the Western Region, CMEA Composition winner, Junior Convention, Junior Festival (3 superiors & 2 Gold cups), two time NFMC Junior Composer State, Western Region winner, ABRSM Grade 6 Exam Distinction winner, and 2013 Minnesota Sinfonia Junior Composers Competition winner. Jayson will be attending the Junior Composer Studio in Minnesota this summer for the third year.
