Get Hooked on Downhill Mountain Biking with a Special, 4-Week Class from Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance

Intermediate and advanced level mountain bikers are invited to learn the skills needed to happily ride trails at Stevens Pass and Whistler Mountain Bike Parks in this special 4-class series - or just the final, one-day clinic at Stevens Pass.

Issaquah, WA, July 13, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance is hosting a 4-week class series focused specifically on the skills needed to have fun riding the Downhill (DH) trails at mountain bike parks. The class will be taught by Evergreen’s own certified instructors with experience in DH racing up to the Pro level.

This special class is suitable for intermediate level mountain bikers ages 15 and up. Participants will spend one evening per week for four weeks learning and practicing DH skills, and putting them to use on the trails. The first three days of the clinic will be held at King County’s Duthie Hill Park in Issaquah and other local trails TBA. The final day of the series will be a full day at Stevens Pass Bike Park. DH bikes are not required for the first three classes.

Mountain bikers with some previous DH experience may also sign up for just the final, all-day clinic at Stevens Pass. However space is limited to just five participants for this final day. Stevens Pass lift ticket and lunch is included in the price of the 1-day clinic and series, and Stevens Pass will be offering discounted bike and rental equipment to class participants.

“Downhill is a growing discipline in the sport of mountain biking – especially among women,” says Debbi Murray, Director of Evergreen’s Education Program. “We’re excited to be able to expose more people to the fun and excitement of this style of riding.” This is the second year Evergreen has offered this DH class series.

Downhill mountain biking is different from other mountain biking disciplines first and foremost because the riders rarely climb up hill on their bikes. Instead DH riders either rely on car shuttles or ski lifts to take them to the top of the trails. DH trails are steeper than typical cross country trails and usually include technical features, rugged terrain, and drops of varying degrees. DH bikes are designed with different geometry and bigger shocks to handle the challenging landscape of this style of riding in a safe manner.

All Evergreen classes, including this special clinic, are open to the public. Participants must become members of Evergreen in order to register. Proceeds from this clinic will benefit the Evergreen Education Program and Evergreen's mission to protect, build and maintain trails for mountain biking statewide.

The Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance Education Program was founded in the early 90’s as a grassroots effort. In 2010 it became a formalized program with professionally trained and certified instructors. Since then upwards of 1000 people have participated in the program and improved their riding skills. Evergreen currently offers classes for adults, kids, and women-only, with class options ranging from beginner skills to more advanced downhill, freeride and enduro riding techniques.

Evergreen’s 32 volunteer instructors in Western, Central, and Eastern WA are professionally trained and certified through the IMIC and Endless Biking. They are a diverse group of experienced, trained riders that are passionate about mountain biking and are excited to pass on their hard-earned knowledge to both new and seasoned riders.
