Casino Expansions Utilize HP Fiber RS485 and RS232 Converters for Data Networks

Electro Standards Laboratories manufactures a line of HP Fiber Converters that are used in casinos in the US and Worldwide.

Cranston, RI, July 24, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Electro Standards Laboratories (ESL), Cranston, RI, a premiere manufacturer of network products, has added European versions of its popular HP Fiber to Copper Interface Converters to its product lineup. The Models 4137EU and 4139EU enable European IT Professionals to take advantage of the field-proven Fiber 232® Converters currently utilized extensively in casino floor networks and other applications in the US and Canada.

Fiber 232® converters convert RS485/RS422/RS232 serial communication interface to HP Versatile Link plastic core cable. These new converters, designed for the European market, are supplied complete with a 2-Pin external wall-mount power supply that provides 100VAC-240VAC, 50/60 Hz and is GS, CE, and RoHS certified. The Model 4139EU is configurable for use at DCE or DTE.

ESL’s Fiber 232® family of interface converters connect fiber optic linked terminals to a controller having either RS485 or RS232 interface ports, providing electrical to optical and optical to electrical conversion. The advantage of conversion to a fiber optic communication standard is that the data transmission is no longer susceptible to electrostatic or electromagnetic fields. Additionally, the ports of the connected terminals are protected from damage by potential differences (ground variations) that often exist between them. Units are available with RJ45, DB9, and DB15 connectors.

The fiber transmission distance is 75m (250 ft.) using TC 1000 W type plastic fiber cable. Data transfer rates and transmission distances vary with the specific models. The optical fiber connectors are HP/Agilent Versatile link. The optical cable type is 1mm plastic optical film. The optical wavelength is 600 nm (red). The dimensions of all units are 5.5” x 2.25” x 1.0” (139mm x 57mm x 25mm). The units weigh 0.5 lbs. (226 grams). Every model has a red LED status display.

The copper interface of these units features ESD and Transient Voltage protection. These converters provide full galvanic isolation (no metallic connection) between connected devices. These features allow the interference free fiber optical transfer of data to be utilized. Models 4127 and 4129 convert HP Fiber to RS-485. Models 4137, 4139, 4137EU and 4139EU convert HP fiber to RS232. Electro Standards also supplies fiber optic cable assemblies including HP Versatile Link plastic core cables.

The Fiber 232® family of interface converters has been used extensively in casino network floor applications, but they can also be used in other applications.
